Rearrange your office. Rearrange your outlook.
I've had an itch lately. An itch I couldn't quite scratch and kept trying to ignore. I'd been thinking for the past couple weeks that I wanted to rearrange my office. Make it more student friendly and larger. How does one do that? Easy. You put your desk that separates you from a student in both 1:1s and conduct meetings against the wall. Thus instantly removing the barrier in the middle of the room and giving your office more room to breathe.
But I kept putting it off not knowing whether I'd be returning to the same building again next year and not wanting to put all the effort and sweat into moving my desk and thus, my filing cabinet, and well perhaps my couch and bookcase too. I figured IF I returned to the same building next year, I'd spend some time in the summer cleaning up and cleaning out and in the process, move things around for a new year.
But today, the itch got to be too much. It could be that I found out yesterday I will be returning to the same community again next year. But I also think it could be that I've been stressed lately and that the wind has been knocked out of my sails by some recent events. I guess my sails are so pathetic that it's showing as I've had quite a few folks ask me what's up and what they can do to get me back to my usual self. And really, I'm fine. Nothing to worry about. But I figured with my sails needing some new wind, perhaps a little office rearrange could do the trick.
I like the new setup (perhaps I should have taken before and after photos but oh well) and though I don't have a new outlook quite yet, I'm hopeful the new office plus a trip home this weekend to see the entire fam (yes, even the sis from Australia is in!) will do the trick.
Cheers.
