iLead

I was honored to be asked several weeks ago to facilitate a workshop on visioning for the iLead community. "Visioning" is one of the 8 characteristics of a servant leader and I happily accepted the great opportunity to develop a 90 minute workshop on visioning. I didn't know how many students to expect (I was told somewhere between 10-60) and I was given no directions other than, "Your workshop should be about visioning." Hmmm. Where does one go with that?

I was supposed to facilitate it last week but a power outage on campus pushed it to yesterday and now that it's over, I think it went incredibly well! I'm a bit biased but well, you know... So what did we do? We examined the difference between dreams and visions with a little help from MLK Jr.; we discussed examples of visionary leaders throughout history and some present day examples of current undergraduate students who are visionary; we explored why visions are important and the purpose they serve; and finally, I challenged the students to begin mapping out their own vision with the help of a video called, "What's my sentence." Overall, I think the students really bought into the workshop and (hopefully) gained something from it.

After the presentation ended, a student came up and asked me what I studied in school that allowed me to get to do things like this. I realized I'm one lucky guy...

Cheers.
