Tuesday News
One might think that a 2-3 hour staff meeting every Tuesday morning would make me dread the (technically third) second day of the (w0rk) week. But for whatever reason, I don't mind gathering with my colleagues every Tuesday morning and hearing what's going on across campus. Helps give me perspective about life outside my own community.
I'm watching the Today Show this morning and listening to a story about a killer, baby cobra lost in the Bronx Zoo. Zoo man said it could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to find the cobra and that they just have to wait until it gets hungry or thirsty. They aren't even 100% positive it's still in the Reptile House much less still in the zoo but they are hopeful. The reporter this morning said though the cobra's bite is fatal, the good news is it only bites you if provoked. So, the moral of this story is if you see the baby cobra, don't try to pet it. Run, Run far, far away. Reminds me of the time that "lion" escaped from the unknown zoo in the middle of Mississippi and was hit by a car and ended up as roadkill. Tragic day for that "lion."
In other news, a different report said too much time spent on Facebook can result in what some docs are dubbing, "facebook depression." Would be curious to know what exactly that entails, what the symptoms are, and how to avoid it.
Moving on, I caught glimpses of several stories yesterday both on Today and NBC Nightly News about the sex discrimination suit against Walmart. The corporate giant is apparently being sued for discriminating against women and only promoting men. No idea how much weight the suit will carry but it was enough to make me hit up Target instead of Walmart last night to get a few odds n ends. I really like Walmart too and I'm sure I won't be able to stay away long but I'll try for a bit.
And finally, though this isn't "news," I was so happy to catch up yesterday with one of my oldest and dearest college friends. We haven't talked since a wedding maybe last May (good lord is that possible!?!?) but we quickly fell back into an old routine chatting about the last year. So great to (re)connect with her and I'm happy to hear she's still an avid blog reader!
And that's it from this news corner. Time to get ready for the day!
Cheers.
