Oh Technology...

I've never declared myself a "tech whiz." In fact, I don't think I'd go so far as to say I'm technically savvy. I'm not tech-challenged by any means. I get by. But sometimes when I am attempting to do something technological, I find myself swearing there must be an easier way and I just don't know about it. There simply must!

I went over to my great Aunt Nan's today. She was complaining over Turkey Day that she needed a new computer because her laptop wouldn't allow her to send emails. So I went to check it out today and turns out, my great aunt has been writing messages in the CC: line instead of the body of the email. They're not long messages. Just short and sweet. When she goes to press send, she's disheartened when an error screen pops up telling her there's an unrecognizable address. So what does my great aunt do? She keeps trying to press send (it doesn't work) so she goes into her address book to figure out the wrong address and comes up with nothing. Poor Aunt Nan. There just isn't a Hopeyouarewell&happyholidays.love,nan@aol.com. I tried my best to explain it to her so here's hoping it works out.

When I came home, my mother asked for a tutorial on Facebook. Yes. My mother has joined the social networking giant. She is trying to connect with her classmates from Newcomb College (now absorbed by Tulane). One of her old classmates is trying to plan a reunion. You'd be surprised how many of my mom's classmates from 1973 are on there! My aunt Angele said social networking sites are the equivalent of standing in a crowded bar with your skirt up for the world to see. (She has a point in a way...they are sometimes too personal...) During my mom's tutorial, she asked how to remove the News Feed and her Wall. Too messy she said. Too busy. I tried to explain how Facebook all works and she got annoyed by having to read about what so and so wrote on so and so's wall and she signed off. "I don't even know that person," she said. "Why in the world would I care to read what whoever said to this person?" I don't know mom. I just don't know...

Before this post becomes a monograph, I'll close by saying I embarked on my own technological journey tonight by attempting to create two google calendars and sync them with my two Gmail accounts (one is personal and the other is for school/work). It was a PAIN IN MY ARSE! I finally felt a sense of accomplishment until I realized one calendar account was in Central time and the other in Eastern. I had to go back and change all the bloody central times to eastern. PAIN-IN-MY-ARSE I tell ya.

Sigh...whatever happened to the days of day planners...I miss those.
