SNOW IN NEW ORLEANS!
You don't often see a sight like this: a street car rolling down a snow capped St. Charles Avenue. In my lifetime, I can think of only two times when I witnessed "snow" in New Orleans. I use the quotation marks because any Northerner or Midwestern would call my version of snow nothing more than flakes of ice. But to someone who is used to wearing shorts on Thanskgiving, you'll understand the excitement when anything slightly resembling snow comes to New Orleans. So it is indeed a sad day being trapped here in Athens on a rainy, gloomy day when the snow is falling in New Orleans. My mom called me this morning and she said, "I just wanted to let you know it is snowing in New Orleans. I was on the computer and I turned around and saw the snow. There is a lot of it. I haven't seen this much snow in New Orleans in I don't know how long." I know how long. Never. Not in my lifetime. I'm no weatherman so I have no idea what the accumulation will be but if it's enough for even a muddy snowman, the kids will be happy. These are things New Orleans' kids remember from their childhoods. We're used to snowballs, not snow. So I hope every child down in NOLA today has put on their winter coat and is outside making a snow angel, a snowman, having a snowball fight, or perhaps just standing with their head back, mouth open, taking in the goodness.
...L I B....It is snowing!
Cheers.
