Back Up Plan.

Tonight I am dedicating this post to my friend, Steve. Steve drew this picture in class today and in his honor, wanted to post it on my blog for him. I don't think Steve will end up like his mom as he is planning a career in the field, but with the economy the way things are, it's always good to have a back up plan. I am glad Steve has one.

We had a guest speaker come in today and talk about working with Budgets in Higher Education. Listening to his speech and learning how difficult it is to cut budgets, I am glad to be a student right now and optimistic the economy will turn around. In so many ways, I almost felt invincible thinking that no matter how hard times are, institutions of higher education will always be in business and we will always need student affairs staff. With the budget cuts and hiring freezes, I'm not so sure anymore.

So it begs the question, what will my back up plan be? I already know Steve's and though I envy him for being so sure, I don't quite know what I would do...(This is all hypothetical and not meant to scare Keenan and Stephen as I promised them I'd be employed post graduate school and I will). But let's just say hypothetically I had to pick a new career...What would it be?

I think I would choose one of the following:
a. architect (after returning to school)
b. restaurant owner
c. real estate agent (despite the crappy housing market)

Cheers.
