Going once, twice, SOLD!

I'm not quite sure where all the time went that I used to have to spend blogging. It has definitely disappeared. It could be the craziness of life in the CLS or perhaps my new practicum (a fancy word for internship) in the Office of Multicultural Services and Programs that I started last week or maybe my Research Methods class I am d-r-e-a-d-i-n-g. Who knows. So I'll do my best to keep the blog going strong but until I get back into my groove with classes and such, it may be a while.

We had a "values auction" in class the other day. Each student was given $2,000 to bid on 50 items ranging from materialistic items (dream home anywhere in the world, lifetime of financial wealth, starring role in a movie) to sentimental items (deep and satisfying love with someone, unlimited ability to positively impact others) and finally social causes (a cure for HIV/AIDS, foster home for 75 abused children, world without cruelty). It was really interesting to see what my classmates bid on.

I saved most of my money for item 29: the ability to fly or have superpowers (I assumed it would go for a lot). Guess what? No one else wanted it. Lame. So I got it for $100. I was willing to spend upwards of $1500 to fly anywhere I wanted (or some other superpower). Sure, gas is cheap now but for how long? And how impressive would it be to take someone flying on a first date? Best first date ever I'd say. Plane crashes in the Hudson River (how scary is that??) Not a problem for me, I can fly myself! Take that frequent flyer reward programs.

Other things I won:
$50,000 for a charity of my choice
Unlimited credit card access for ten years
Twenty hotel rooms anywhere in the world for one week for me and 40 guests
100 shares of any stock for sale on the NYSE
An "A" in all of my current courses
A religious conversion for 20 people of my choice.

All in all, wasn't a bad auction. I'm still most excited about having superpowers.

Cheers.
