Ah. the weekend.
I love "working for the weekend." Better yet, I just love the weekend. I can't even remember the last time I looked forward so much to the weekends (maybe undergrad?) and am greatly enjoying my summer here in Athens. It's been an eventful weekend thus far and I'm looking forward to another great day tomorrow.
Woke up Friday and got my hair cut followed by a day at pool (and moving some boxes) at the new complex. Went to see Up last night with Steve and then grabbed Taqueria del sol with Steve, Sam, and Daphne.
In an effort to do something other than sitting by the pool and going out, Steve, Sam, and I (noticing a pattern of people?) got up early this morning and hit Cook's Trail within Sandy Creek here in Athens for an 8.5 mile hike. Surprisingly, it wasn't as warm as I anticipated thanks to all the shade. However, I did not anticipate all the bugs...good grief!
Steve came over this evening and we made homemade pizza, watched A League of Their Own, and I sanded and painted a piece of furniture Ash and J gave me that is going in my living room next year as a tv stand. It looks great!
Sadly, there was some bad news this weekend. I woke up Friday morning to Tweets by the R&B (the unofficial UGA student paper) that the Georgia Theatre downtown was on fire.
I passed by downtown on my way to the haircut and there was a TON of smoke and fire trucks everywhere. It looked like a scene from a movie. There hasn't been much released in terms of what started the fire but the theatre, walls aside, burned to the ground :(
Here's a photo of the aftermath:
Pretty awful...
The fire comes just one week before AthFest. Luckily, all of the concerts were able to be relocated but it will definitely put a damper on the festivities next weekend.
