Oscar Season

I love movies and naturally, love Oscar season. I prepare for the big night (this year on March 7) by trying to see as many of the nominated movies as possible. Though I don't get a vote, I enjoy feeling more educated about the movies being nominated and being able to agree or disagree with the winners/losers.

In last week's Entertainment Weekly, Nicole Sperling listed the 25 movies one needs to see before Oscar Night. Naturally, this list has become my new bucket list (figuratively speaking).

The movies I've seen:
Up in the Air (a close second to (500) Days of Summer)
Precious
Up
Julie & Julia
The Blind Side
Star Trek
District 9
(500) Days of Summer (my favorite thus far)

And the ones I haven't:
Avatar
The Hurt Locker (on DVD)
Inglourious Basterds
Invictus
An Education
A Serious Man
The Messenger
A Single Man
Crazy Heart (limited release)
The Last Station
Nine
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Lovely Bones (out January 15)
It's Complicated
The Young Victoria
Bright Star (coming to DVD)
The Informant! (coming to DVD)

Obviously, I have a long way to go and do not know that I'll end up seeing all 25. Some of them just don't interest me. Perhaps I'll get around to them on Netflix but I may forego paying an arm and a leg at the theatres. But I hope to at least see An Education, It's Complicated, The Lovely Bones, A Single Man, Crazy Heart, Invictus, Avatar, and The Hurt Locker and maybe even Crazy Heart before March.

Happy viewing (sans the popcorn)!
