Surviving COMPS!

It's finally behind me! I've been hearing about comprehensive exams since I visited UGA in February 2008. I watched my roommates study their arses off last year and celebrated their achievements with them both after they finished the exam and when they found out they all passed a few weeks later. Since returning to Athens in August, our faculty have talked about nothing else. Every reading, every paper, every exam was geared toward COMPS. I spent the semester gathering my materials together and set up a plan to spend the holiday break mastering the material.

Following New Year's Day, I truly buckled down and spoke out, though about, and dreamed out nothing but student affairs. And yesterday, while the rest of North Georgia was shut down due to ice, my 15 classmates and I cozied up in a computer lab to spend six hours proving we knew our stuff. And now we wait. I typed 25 pages, answered 5 questions, and used about 40+ references in totality. We will find out our results on January 29. But I think I passed.

The first years in the program were TOO GOOD to us yesterday. They brought us a feast for breakfast, gave us goody bags with ear plugs, stress balls, and notes of good luck, had lunch catered for us from Five Points Deli, and took us out to dinner at Mellow Mushroom. It was great to celebrate with them and have their support. They're a great group of individuals and I'm so thankful our cohorts are so close.

To all the blog readers who sent good thoughts my way, many, many thanks!

Cheers.
