Two Years In
I celebrate my two year anniversary of living in St. Louis (the lou) today. My my how time flies. I still vividly remember rolling up into the city from the east, seeing the arch and Busch stadium as my first welcome sign to the "gateway to the west" and sending up several prayers of thanks to Baby J that I arrived unharmed despite towing a 14ft u-haul and my car behind. So despite the fact that my driver's license still identifies me as a Georgia Peach (something I really should change one of these days), I am more and more finding myself settled here and appreciating the wonders of this city.
I thought it would be worthwhile to highlight some of my favorites in the city thus far so that in a year from now, I can look back and see whether things have changed or not...
Favorite coffee shop: Cafe Ventana. I am biased...
Favorite wine bar: Sasha's (on Shaw or DeMun)
Favorite brewery: Urban Chestnut
Favorite brunch spot: Half & Half and Rooster (Tie)
Favorite bar: Royale
Favorite neighborhood: Lafayette Square
Favorite outdoor activity: Biking through Forrest Park
Favorite indoor activity: A broadway show at the Fox
Favorite STL festival: Brewer's Heritage Festival and Schlafly Oyster & Stout Festival
Favorite STL tourist event: Cardinals Game
Favorite STL FREE event (there's TONS): The Muny (outdoor theatre)
So there we have it folks. I'm hopeful in the next year there will be more festivals to come, more athletic events (especially a Blues game since I've yet to attend one), more concerts (especially Twilight Tuesdays or Jazz Wednesdays at the Botanical Gardens), more brewery discoveries (aside from Urban Chestnut, Six Row, Morgan Street, Schlafly, Square One, and Anheuser-Busch), and more relationships.
Today I salute you, St. Louis. Thanks for a great two years! Looking forward to what's to come...
Cheers.
