Myrtle.
I'm departing in an hour or so for the weekend of family fun in Myrtle Beach. My cousin is getting married this weekend and is the first one on my mom's side. He's a year younger than I am and it's slightly strange to think of him getting married. But I guess that's the way life works. A few thoughts on this wedding weekend:
1. It is supposed to rain like crazy through tomorrow night. The actual wedding is tomorrow night, Friday, and was supposed to be outside in a state park. I'm not quite sure if there's a rain plan. Tonight, rather than a rehearsal dinner, there is a post-rehearsal pool party. Again, not sure if there's a rain plan.
2. My grandmother refuses to be around anyone who even coughs or sneezes just once. I can't say I blame her for not wanting to get ill but at this moment, I'm still congested/coughing/wheezing/snotting and we're staying in the same condo. I fear my grandmother will shun me.
3. I'm stressed. With midterms right around the corner and projects on the horizon, it will be really tough to spend the extended weekend not thinking about the amount of work I should be doing.
4. Without his permission, I am including part of an ode my uncle wrote which I believe will sum up the wedding weekend:
My final words in parting
As Brad and Jeff know so well
That hooking up with the Pickert clan
Is like spending a week in hell.
For it is I your favorite uncle
Who looks forward to seeing you soon
Wishing Drew and Mallory well
Despite the wind and monsoon!
I don't think I could have said it better. Thanks Uncle Alan. Enjoy your weekend folks and for my athens crew, GO DAWGS!
Cheers.
