Kevin and Beth Paige.
I'm that guy. Call me scrooge but it really irks me when it's not even Thanksgiving and Walmart and the like already have christmas music blaring with trees lit up and fake poinsettias lining the foot of the tree. In Memphis, I would roll my eyes and quickly shift stations once The River 104.5 started their 24 hour/45 day marathon of nothing but christmas tunes. It's not that I mind christmas music, in fact, I love it! But if you think about it, there really aren't that many christmas tunes out there. The new ones (aside from Christmas Shoes...Sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please...gag me.) never seem to last long and every artist under the son feels the need to release their own christmas album with their own rendition of the classics. I was listening to Tony Bennett just this morning belt out a tune on the Today Show and I decided that not only did I not care for Tony Bennett, I was beginning to hate any christmas song he sang.
So with a lack of new tunes and the same old songs over and over again, I do not particularly care to start listening to the music until the day after Turkey Day. Only then am I in the right frame of mind to listen to Little Drummer Boy, Mary Did You Know, Silent Night, and the rest of the gang.
All of this to preface that I broke out the Kevin and Bethany Paige WoW Christmas CD this morning. I know, HYPOCRITE! I can hear it being yelled in my ear. But when packing for Thanksgiving, I just felt a need to hear a little Kevin and Beth. For you non-Memphis folk, Kevin and Beth Paige are in many ways celebrities. They are Christian music artists who also happen to play at a bar/club on Beale Street every Friday and Saturday night in Memphis. They are multi-talented. It doesn't hurt that Beth is gorgeous. They hold a Christmas concert every year in Memphis and Will and I had a standing date with them every year. Sadly, this is the first year I won't be attending. But I have no qualms with blaring their christmas cd for the next month or so. Beginning today.
Scrooge or no scrooge, I can't help it. I love me some Kevin and Beth.
