Thank you. Gracias. Merci. Danke. Grazie.

A life of gratitude equals a life of contentment. My grandfather asked me several times during the course of today's Thanksgiving meal if I were taking notes for my blog. He kept leaning over to me saying, "Did you hear that? You should write that one down." Or "Don't forget to add that into the blog entry too." I think he will probably be sorely disappointed when he logs on to find out I am not going to blog about the Romig Thanksgiving Dinner. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary and I missed a majority of the fun and rowdy conversation by washing dishes. I was afraid I'd get all "student affairsy." I didn't want to go there.

After the family left, I wandered upstairs and started looking through my old photo boxes from college. They aren't filled with photos. Rather, they contain letters, cards, notes, mementos, e-mails, etc. that I collected over my four years at Rhodes. I have a box for each year. It would probably take an entire day to read everything in there and I am willing to bet I could compile Amanda's notes into a novel. After looking through my freshman year box, I stumbled upon a card from my old CYO Director. Quite possibly one of my most favorite persons in the world (a true soul friend), Sara wrote in her note that "a life of gratitude equals a life of contentment." And I realized that I don't take a step back often enough to evaluate all the good in my life and really say thank you for the blessings and the gifts.

So tonight Grandpa, you are going to have to settle for a simple thank you. I am grateful for my family. For friends old and new. For my faith. For peace within my heart that I know who I am and that I am proud to be who I am. For my health. For my education. For my future career. For life.

I wish everyone a happy thanksgiving and as the Christmas season approaches, I hope we can all take a few moments to think about everyone and everything that has touched and blessed our lives. "Thanks for the joy that you've given me, I want you to know I believe in your song..."

Cheers.
