Duty.
This morning I committed myself to being a responsible motorist and citizen. With a fear and a letter looming over my head that I would soon be viewed as an uninsured motorist in the state of GA, I went down to the local county office and registered my car in the state. I am now driving around with a GA plate and have placed my TN plate in the retirement bin along with my LA plate.
Afterwards, I drove downtown to the Voting Office to cast my ballot for the upcoming election. I figured it was worth doing before election day to get it out of the way. I was amazed at the number of people willing to stand in the cold rain waiting to get inside to exercise their right to vote. After 45 minutes of standing outside, being offered tissue and an umbrella by the volunteers, I finally made it inside and was able to cast my vote.
Despite the gloomy weather, I am very excited for the rest of the day. I am meeting up with a few people to see HSM3 this afternoon and then going to Atlanta to see Wicked tonight with Carson, Ash, and J. I am beyond pumped for going to the Fox Theatre tonight and am already finding myself singing the lyrics...
I was thinking recently that is also my duty as a new Athenian to check out the local cuisine. I have barely explored any restaurants in the area aside from Barberitos. So last night, a few of us went to DePalmas downtown and it was delicious. I had the Eggplant Florentine, a glass of wine, and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Definitely worth checking out. Entrees run between $10-20 and though it's not a place I will frequent often thanks to the graduate school budget, it's definitely a place to treat yourself.
Enjoy the day, and the weekend.
Cheers.
