car crash.
I think Matt Nathanson is probably one of my favorite artists. I would describe his music as folk rock? He's a singer/songwriter and he's amazing. Check him out here. Car Crash is off his latest album, Some Mad Hope, and is such an appropriate way to start this post.
I had my own car crash this afternoon. I was headed to the gym and traffic got pretty congested. I slowed down and hit my brakes when the car in front of me braked quickly. It was plenty of time for the girl behind me in her Ford Explorer to hit her brakes but she didn't and she plowed into me! The force of the impact not only sent my body and neck forward but also my car and I hit the woman in front of me. Ouch.
Surprisingly, the Athens police showed up in less than 10 minutes after I called 911. Wow. In Memphis, I'm willing to bet it would have taken at least an hour. The woman I hit got a ticket for not having her son in a car seat-talk about bad luck. Here she was riding along and BAM, I hit her and then BAM she gets a ticket. She didn't stick around after that so I guess the girl who caused the wreck is off the hook for her damages. She also got a ticket from the cop for I assume "following too closely" but I would have given her a ticket for "smashing the hell out of my corolla." She is a rising sophomore at UGA and said her parents would kill her. Better them than me.
Luckily, there was a Toyota dealership and Enterprise Rent-A-Car a half mile from the wreck. I dropped my car off and picked up an Xterra to rent (memories of the old days when I drove one.) I think I spent close to an hour and a half dealing with insurance but hopefully the only money I'll spend through this all is the gas for the rental. Hopefully.
My car has seen better days. Poor guy. The front bumper is slightly off its track, the trunk won't close and the back bumper, tail lights, etc. are done for. I'm willing to bet it will cost a pretty penny. That's why you pay attention when you drive. So you don't slam into someone for no good reason.
I am pretty sore and hoping a few Advil can cure my pain. If not, guess I'll be making a trek to the University Health Center tomorrow to get checked out.
I wanna feel the car crash...Oh I felt it alright. Sure did.
