Girl You Know It's True...

In the early 90s, I remember hearing that Milli Vanilli, most known for their hits, "Girl You Know It's True" and "Blame it on the Rain" had lost their Grammy Award when it was revealed the duo lip-synced.

I was thinking about them earlier today when I heard that the little girl from China who sang "Ode to the Motherland" in a red dress during the Opening Ceremonies had also lip-synced. Apparently, China felt she was cute enough to perform before 90,000 attendees and over 70 million viewers who watched from home but did not feel her voice was strong enough. The solution? Select a girl who had the voice but as a seven year old, was apparently not cute enough or as China put it, "flawless" and have her record the song. I am disgusted by this. I'm not quite sure when it became OK to tell a child their voice is angelic and will be broadcast to millions but that sadly, they just don't make the cut in the looks department and therefore will not get to appear on camera.

And people wonder why our society is obsessed with image. Because a sad little seven year old girl isn't "flawless." You can check out the full article here. In my personal opinion, if the girl has the vocal talent, she deserves the spotlight. I HIGHLY doubt someone would have watched the performance and said, WOW what a voice. Too bad she's unfortunate looking. She's seven.

I didn't watch the entirety of the Opening Ceremonies and after hearing about this and the fake fireworks, I'm glad I didn't sit home and waste my night. I will however be sitting at home tonight to watch Michael Phelps go for his third gold medal and watch women's gymnastics.

Go Team USA. Cheers.
