It's five o'clock somewhere

Today concluded day 2 of my graduate school education and I promise you that even though we played games and colored all day, it is a difficult program.

First up was Interpersonal Processes (IP) with Dr. Dean. I love Dr. Dean. She's got the small school student affairs background, is a Kappa Delta, and she exudes warmth. We did a series of exercises today to convey the importance of communicating effectively and really listening when someone is speaking. It felt like a game of blindfolded Pictionary. One person told you what to draw by describing the object (a sailboat, a house) but without saying what the object was. Good thing most of us took Geometry in high school because the game quickly became a series of, "draw an upside down trapezoid, draw a right triangle with a hypotenuse, draw a 110 degree angle, etc." Good times were had by all.

This afternoon we had Structured Group Interventions. I initially thought this class might delve into the world of interventions and since Intervention on A&E is an amazing show, was hoping class might turn into one extended episode. But alas, the class is more about group dynamics. We are going to a ropes course on Friday to kick things off and were placed into small groups. Our group name for the semester is "It's five o'clock somewhere." We are Group 5 and we felt that as social creatures, it was important to incorporate that into our title. My favorite is "Team Doe" and the names the group made up for themselves. My favorite being "Jill Doe." Trying saying that with a straight face. Even Dr. Mullendore (no relation to Dumbledore) laughed hysterically.

After a long day of 6 hours of graduate school classes, the cohort is going out tonight for some mexican food and trivia. Should be a good time.

Cheers.
